I've this confusion about Lyotard in Post modernism. In our textbook there is no mention of whether he reject grand narratives completely or not, and if he only considers science as the medium of knowledge? While i searched online it is given he had completely rejected the ideas of grand narrative but in text they are continuously dwindling with the word argue without giving a proper direction.

my second question is.... is our central block a post modernist architecture? And if so why?

thirdly do we have post-structuralism or not for our exam?

my email id is guha.debasmita@gmail.com

sir i got the answer to my 2nd question, posted earlier.

I've some more dobts:

Does Lytord believe in science after rejecting Grand Narratives?

Grand Narrative is a language game or language game was to challenge the blind faith in grand narratives?

Modernism rejects aesthetics and post modernism abides by it. Is this statement true?

Modernism rose against the Enlightment era or they share common ideologies?

Sorry for so many questions,it will take up lot of your time but these things are really contradicting and confusing in the text book?

Sir, according to the course plan we do not have lacan's psychoanalysis, but it has been taught to us. Do we have it for the exam?

@ Satya. No specific questions on Lacan. But you may use it for questions on psychoanalysis or any other relevant question.

@ Debasmita. First, I appreciate the thinking mind that is evident in the questions posed.

My answers are to your questions are based on my immediate thoughts. I haven't gone back to my texts to crosscheck the these immediate answers. In case i make a mistake, do excuse. Here are the responses

1. To my mind, Lyotard also rejects the grandnarratives in favour of micronarratives or little narratives.

Does he consider science as the only medium of knowledge? My answer is no.

2. You have poststructuralism for exam. Derrida is post-structuralist. His thoughts constitute major portion of poststructurlism.

3.Language game was to challenge the blind faith in grand narratives

4. The statement "Modernism rejects aesthetics and post modernism abides by it" is false. Because modernism was not rejecting aesthetics. Some of the thinkers opine that acts of Duchamp (remember 'Fountain'?) were to remind 'art' about its aesthetic functions or relationship of aesthetics to society. Modernism as a movement in creative writing and arts did not have a critique of Kant, who had posited the ideas of aesthetics.

5. Modernism and Enlightenment do share common ideologies. For ex. ideas of assertion of freedom of individuals, centrality of universal belief system were common to both.
