  9. i am doing the same course from IP University, delhi.i am in first year. we have just started with our classes. i have a few queries - is this a professional course? what career prospects does it provide to us?

  10. alpa, I went through your syllabus at IP University. It is a communication studies oriented. At Christ we are trying to make it interdisciplinary with a stress on English Studies. With this syllabus and course work we expect our students to be able to teach in depts of English, become researchers as well as move to media, or industry.

  11. alpa, I must admit you have a fascinating syllabus in place. Would like to know the contents. Can you email or mail me the detailed syllabus? Would really appreciate that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. anil, the syllabus available on the site of IP college is what we have as reference...till now. will email you the detailed syllabus when it is made available to us.

  13. anil, did you read the second year syllabus as well? in our second year there are some elements of English Studies in it.

  14. i went through the syllabus at the site once again. they have given the detailed syllabus of 1st and 2and semester only. and we personally have the hard copy of the 1st semester. i suppose we will be provided with the syllabus at the beginning of each semester.
however they have also provided the outline of the complete course.

  15. Alpa, downloaded the syllabus. Thank you very much for the information. Have the classes started? How do you find them? For a course like this teachers will make a huge difference, not so much the syllabus

  20. Dear Aman,
The university is in Bangalore. It was a college for nearly 40 years and was a year ago upgraded to a university by UGC. The University website is currently down. Should be up in a day or two. The university website is www.christuniversity.in. The admission procedure is mentioned in the university website.

    All the best.

  21. Hi Anil,

I intend to pursue the same course. I did a pass course in which I got 52% without English litterature as a subject, though, I did have General English. Am I eligible? If yes, how should I go about preparing for the admission?
My email Id is suraj_15may@yahoo.com. Kindly let me know at the earliest and also give me an idea of the reputation as I'm also considering other universities.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dear Suraj,
To the best of my knowledge the minimum aggregate percentage in core subjects excluding the languages should be 50% minimum to qulaify for admission. The admission as of now is based on personal interview. The interview will try to understand your aptitude for the programme applied, ability to take the rigour and ability to adapt to the campus culture. For further information you may also email to admission@christuniversity.in

  23. Regarding reputation, the institution has been ranked as one of the top ten in india for the last three years on India today

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks so much Anil. So that means I'm eligible to sit for the interview. And your blog is of great help! I hope other universities follow suit. Had one question in mind, how come the fee for the course is so steep? The university is UGC recognised.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, since the university does not get grants from the Government, it needs to pay to teachers from the student fees!

    ReplyDelete
  26. does this course have internship?
if yes for how many months?
    in basically which all fields?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sir,

As the admission process includes only interview, what are the areas the interviewer(s) would look into. Will they check the knowledge of language/literature? Though academically I haven't accomplished much, I have worked as a communication trainer in a BPO for a year, will that be counted? I'm a little apprehensive.

    ReplyDelete
  28. dear nile, the internship is for a period of 30 working days. It can be in a research centre, educational institution, media organisation, theatre group and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  29. the focus of interview would look into language efficiency, knowledge of literature, ability to cope with the studies. The BPO experience would help.

  32. Sir, wanted to apply for MA(English & Communication), however, I'm a little hesitant because the university might lose its university status. In case it does, what will happen to the students pursuing this course? Do you think it would be safe to apply to the university at present?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dear Suraj, my response should be treated as personal and not that of the institution. The University status case is coming up for hearing on 6 May. Hope clarity regarding the status emerges that day. However, to the best of my knowledge, in the event of the institution losing its deemed university status the academic programmes of the institution will come under Bangalore University. Most probably the institution will revert to its Autonomous status under Bangalore university. If you are doubtful you may wait till May 6

  34. Sir, I have applied for the Course MA English.I want to know when the course will begin?. How will be the interview? What may be the probable subjects?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Shruthi, the classes begin for the course on 16 June. In the interview candidate's interest in the course, ability to adapt to the campus culture, general language ability are tested. Regarding the subjects in the course, almost the same subjects mentioned in this post are taught. All the best.

  36. Hello Sir,

I have just found out about, and would like to apply for this course for the current academic year. Are applications still open? Is there a particular closing date?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Application issue opens officially on 1 March 2011. As far as I know, there is no particular closing date. But better to apply before 1 June to be on safer side.

    ReplyDelete
  38. hi sir. i have applied for this course and wiil be giving my interview in two days. can you tell me how to prepare for it especially because i am not from the arts background.please help!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The interview will try to find out:

whether you have interest in the programme? This is done by trying to know what you have read, what you are reading, how much of what you have read you understand.

Whether you are focused about taking up this programme. Questions regarding you future plans and if your future plans match the course content.

Whether you will be able to cope with the demanding programme? This is done by enquriing about your class attendance habits of past, regularly, submission of assignments in time.

Whether you will fit into Christ campus? This is the most crucial part. The issues concentrated are dress, manners, hair. Questions may be asked giving hypothetical situations on teacher-student relationships, peer-pressure. Smoking/drinking are a complete no-no.

    All the very best.
