how far is freud's theories are applicable in the case of so called 'creative writers'.....if creativity is very subjective then how could he cross check the 'mind' of a writer with a scientific rational basis....it sounds very ridiculous when we go on believing that anything proved or run by the facts are true and are 'real'....

sry it is out of the topic but i fail to understand how we are going to apply psychoanalysis to literature.

seriously, i'm lost...sir, can u plz take tht up by giving simple (mundane and pragmatic) examples... I believe tht i have a certain vague idea of psychoanalysis, but it is beyond me to practically try to analyze a piece based on wht i knw.

This leads me to my other suggestion. Why don't we take a piece of literature and analyze it via the traditional, formmalist, structuralist and psychoanalytic approach.. tht way we knw wht the real difference is...

In relation to all these questions posted, a good reading would be a book titled as,'Literary Theory and Criticism',by Patricia Waugh. This book is an Oxford Guide and it is available at Landmark.

The book that Munaf has mentioned is a good undergrad textbook. Can depend on it. We have four copies of it in the English PG section of the library.
